Entry for April 3, 2007
Well It was a little wet for our "Fun Fifth Saturday" shoot on March 31. It was raining at start time but it was looking like it might clear up a little back in the west so we waited. Thirteen hardy shooters were on hand but two left about the time the rain stopped at 10:30. We went down and shot three stages before breaking for lunch. After the lunch break we returned to the range to shoot some more. We shot two team matches and then set up to shoot the "Clearwater Shuffle".

The "Clearwater Shuffle" is named for the Clearwater Lake area where several of our Cowboy shooters hail from. I was introduced to it by Des Arc and Riley Roy on a visit to their area. It seems a number of loaded firearms are arranged on a table before you and at the start signal you shoot each in turn at the prescribed targets. Some of the firearms may belong to you and none may belong to you. That is part of the fun as each shooter may or may not shoot that type firearm or that caliber firearm.

On this day however we had planned on doing some special shooting with our 22 cal. firearms so at least the caliber was the same. Laid out on the table was a lever rifle with 10 rounds, three revolvers with five rounds each, another lever rifle with 10 rounds, three more revolvers, another lever rifle with 10 rounds, two more revolvers, and a pump rifle. Eighty rounds!

We only had two shooters who got to complete this event and the third was about half-way through when the rain came again. Since it was about 2:30 we waited about 30 minutes for a let up in the rain prior to calling it a day. By 3:30 the sun was out!

It was a fun day! If you notice on the scores posted for the three stages we shot there is not a column for procedurals. We had none! Lead Bane shot the three stages clean. If your category is listed incorrectly, don't fret. These are fun shoots and do not count for year end awards. These shoots are a good excuse to try something new with no pressure.

Thanks to Strong Box Bill for coming out Monday afternoon to help with a little cleanup and leaf burning. Red and I had done some prior to Saturday's shoot.

There will be a "Smokin' in September" match back by popular demand.

The date will be September 29th. Details to follow. Last year this was a black-powder match.
